'Fifty Shades Of Grey' Gains Jennifer Ehle As Anastasia's Mom

Anastasia Steele's family tree is taking root.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that actress Jennifer Ehle will play the role of Carla, Anastasia's mother, in the upcoming adaptation of E.L. James' best-selling novel "Fifty Shades of Grey."

The story centers around virginal Anastasia, a recent college graduate who meets an enigmatic billionaire named Christian Grey and embarks upon a steamy, S&M-tinged sexual relationship. But it quickly becomes clear Christian's hiding more than just a riding crop and a desire to dominate.

A divorcee multiple times over, Carla is described by daughter Ana as flighty and forgetful, but she's instantly charmed by her daughter's handsome suitor and happily makes her feelings known.

Ehle joins previously cast stars Dakota Johnson, as Anastasia, and Charlie Hunnam, as Christian.

The actress is no stranger to literary adaptations. Though she most recently appeared in Kathryn Bigelow's 2012 film "Zero Dark Thirty," Jane Austen lovers likely know (and love) Ehle as Elizabeth Bennet from the 1995 BBC miniseries "Pride and Prejudice," in which she starred alongside Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. Her other upcoming projects include "RoboCop" and "Advantageous."

While the "Fifty Shades" cast is certainly take shape, there are still a number of roles to fill, among them Ana's best friend Kate and Christian's brother Elliot.

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, written by Kelly Marcel and produced by Universal and Focus Features, "Fifty Shades of Grey" is slated for an August 1, 2014 release.
