Sesame Street has hosted an amazing array of musical guests since 1969 (we helpfully ran down the 10 best here), and pop culture parodies are another key part of the kids' show's history. There is an art to teaching children about self-control and poetry appreciation, and Sesame Street tackles both topics in two fresh, timely spoofs.
10 Best 'Sesame Street' Musical Guests
Cookie Monster takes on Icona Pop's "I Love It" with his own pop song called "I Want It" as he tries to resist his ultimate temptation. "I Want It" features the dessert-loving character singing "Me want it / But me wait" as he tempers his insatiable craving for cookies and dances in a club with his friends, before ultimately deciding that he's waited long enough. Sometimes you just have to give in.
The Sesame Street crew also takes on leather, motorcycles and poetry in a spoof of Kurt Sutter's explosive motorcycle crew series Sons of Anarchy. In the video, the "Sons of Poetry" hit the open road while being pursued by Edgar Allan Poe's pesky raven. The sons arrive at an idyllic Victorian-style picnic where Robert Browning is struggling with his latest work alongside wife Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Try as he might, the poet just can't seem to find the right words to end his "Roses are red, violets are blue / Sugar is sweet / And I love ___" poem. The motorcycle crew provides a series of rhymes, and "stew" is ultimately accepted. A flabbergasted Barret Browning gives up on her oblivious husband and jumps on the back of one of the bikes. For what is love if not hopping on the bike of a bad boy poet and riding into the sunset?
