The action-packed "Transformers: Age of Extinction" will add a few new faces to the successful franchise. Mark Wahlberg will appear alongside the newly unearthed fan favorite Dinobots, teaming with director Michael Bay following their collaboration in this year's muscled-up "Pain and Gain."
Wahlberg gazes off into the horizon in a new photo tweeted by Michael Bay, with newcomers Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor bringing up the rear.
The photo's setting remains consistent with the film's previous promo shots, which included images of Optimus Prime and other new Autobots parked out in the desert. Couple those Autobot pics with this new one and "Transformers: Age of Extinction's" first teaser poster depicting the film's iconic logo covered by shifting sand, and you've got the makings of a movie so hot you might need to wear sunscreen to the theater.
In addition to the film's implied desert locale, a bit of information has been made available regarding just whom the film's trio of leading humans will be playing. Wahlberg stars as Cade, a single father who struggles with his inventions just as much as he does with his daughter Tessa, played by "Bates Motel" star Peltz. Reynor will play Tessa's boyfriend Shane, a racecar driver whose skills will surely come into play in a film involving battle-ready automobiles.
Despite revealing three new members of the "Transformers" family, this first pic offers no new information regarding the Dinobots. As robots that transform into prehistoric creatures as opposed to vehicles, fans have wanted to see characters like Grimlock, Slag and Snarl on the big screen since the first "Transformers" film way back in 2007. Mark Wahlberg denied the Dinobots' involvement at first, as is usually the case with big sequels like "Age of Extinction."
"None of your business," Wahlberg told MTV News' Josh Horowitz when asked about the Dinobots. "You don't want me to get replaced halfway through production for divulging secrets."
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura later confirmed the Dinobots' involvement, telling the Beijing News that "the arrival of the Dinobots will give the audience a lot to be excited about."
"Transformers: Age of Extinction" opens on June 27, 2014.
