Taylor Swift may be joining the cast of "The Giver," a film based on Lois Lowry's 1993 novel.
According to The New York Post's Page Six, Swift is locked in to appear in the film — set to shoot later this year in South Africa — which also stars Academy-Award winners Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges, and up-and-coming Australian actor Brenton Thwaites. "True Blood's" Alexander Skarsgard is reportedly also in talks to join the film.
Swift was apparently offered a supporting role in the film by Harvey Weinstein, who introduced her to Thwaites during the Toronto International Film Festival — reportedly Thwaites and Swift were also seen "talking for hours" at a festival party, so update your TayTay Relationship Lineup accordingly — and she's officially signed on to the project.
A spokesperson for Swift could not be reached for comment by MTV News at press time.
Swift made her film debut in the 2010 romantic comedy "Valentine's Day," starring alongside then-boyfriend Taylor Lautner. She also lent her voice to last year's film adaptation of Dr. Seuss' "The Lorax."
"The Giver" tells the story of a boy named Jonas who grows up in a Utopian community, free of war, pain or emotion. After he is given the feel, however, he slowly realizes that his society is much darker than he had ever imagined, and he attempts to free himself and enter the world at large. Swift can no doubt relate; not only did she once date an actual Jonas, but she somehow managed to free herself from the shackles of John Mayer, too.
