Michael Bay is seeing more action behind the scenes of "Transformers: Age of Extinction" than he probably hoped for. Earlier Thursday (October 17) on the Hong Kong set of the series' fourth installment, the director was attacked, according to Reuters, after two men approached Bay and his crew, demanding HK$100,000, the equivalent of $12,900 USD.
After speaking with the crew briefly, one of the men, reportedly brothers with the last name Mak, hit Bay in the face before three nearby police officers stepped in to help.
A spokesperson for the police in Hong Kong did not believe that the injuries to Bay's head were serious, as he declined to go to the hospital afterwards. Filming continued after the incident.
The two men were arrested along with a third on assault and blackmail charges. The reported reason for the demands was that the men claimed Bay owed them money for filming in the location.
MTV News reached out to Paramount, the studio behind the picture, for comment, but a representative did not respond immediately.
"Transformers: Age of Extinction" is the fourth film in the popular series, which is based on the beloved toy line and cartoon from the 1980s. Bay has directed all four entries, and "Age of Extinction" is said to be a reboot of sorts with a new cast taking over, led by "Pain and Gain" star Mark Wahlberg.
The film will also mark the first appearance of the fan favorite character, the Dinobots, robots that transform into prehistoric creatures as opposed to cars and other vehicles.
"Transformers: Age of Extinction" is schedule to hit theaters on June 27, 2014.
