The original "Star Wars" is such an iconic film that it's often easy to remember that it was made just like any other movie, with actors occasionally screwing up a line. And unlike any other movie, there was a disturbing lack of bloopers or raw behind-the-scenes footage.
That is until Lucasfilm editor J.W. Rinzler, who has compiled incredible making-of books for "Episodes IV-VI," dug through the company's archives looking for material and found a never-before-seen reel of outtakes.
The two-and-a-half-minute reel first screened at San Diego Comic-Con this past July for a small crowd, but the footage just appeared online, and it does not disappoint. The clip offers an unprecedented look at the making of "Star Wars" and the occasional flubbed line.
In the bloopers, you'll see Harrison Ford unable to deliver the line "Great shot, kid. That was one in a million" and Alec Guinness, who was not very happy to be working with a wookie. But perhaps the most rewarding blooper is an extended take of stormtroopers clumsily trying to walk through a hole that's been blasted through a wall. It's a perfect visual demonstration on how hard it must have been to walk around in one of those costumers.
The blooper reel for the original "Star Wars" is especially fun to watch thinking that soon (hopefully) filming for a new entry will begin, one that will (hopefully) carry on the traditions from this film, especially when it comes to the more practical sets.
