"This Train Don't Stop There Anymore" might have been the end of Justin Timberlake playing Elton John because Tom Hardy just nabbed the lead role in an upcoming biopic.
JT might have been John's choice to play him in "Rocketman," a biopic that he and his partner David Furnish are producing, but on Wednesday (October 23) it was announced (via Deadline) that the "Dark Knight Rises" star will be wearing a lot more sequin and feathers come fall 2014, when production is scheduled to start.
Back in early 2012, John mentioned Timberlake for the role as "#1 on my wish list" and spoke briefly about the tone of the film, which is written by "Billy Elliot" scribe Lee Hall. The focus of the biopic will be limited to John's battle with alcoholism in the early 90s and the time he spent in rehab.
"It's going to be a surreal look at my life, and not just a factual look at my life, more in the manner of a 'Moulin Rouge!' " John told the LA Times. "I just don't want it to be a normal biopic because my life hasn't been like that. And it only goes up to when I go into rehab in 1990. It starts with me going into rehab and ends when I come out."
Though Hardy is best known for his roles as brutal tough guys in movies like "The Dark Knight Rises," "Inception," and "Warrior," throughout his career he has shown a bigger range than mainstream audiences know him for, a prime example being "Bronson" from "Drive" director Nicolas Winding Refn.
Since the film will cover one of the darker chapters of John's life, you can bet that Hardy will throw himself into the role completely.
