These days, it seems like everyone has advice for Miley Cyrus. Sinead O'Connor, Paul McCartney and Courtney Love are just a few of the celebs who've weighed in about the singer's provocative image.
But while some musicians have criticized the singer, '90s hitmakers TLC had nothing but love for Miley.
"Can I just say, maybe she is trying to break out of the whole [younger image and say], 'This is who I really am. I am not that Disney chick,' Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins told VH1 at the red-carpet premiere of VH1's October 21 biopic, "CrazySexyCool: The TLC Story." T-Boz continued, "Let's be real, girls have been naked and doing stuff like this, twerking. It's just a different name: gyrating, booty-shaking, they just change the names."
With her album, Bangerz, topping the charts this week, Cyrus is likely to maintain the buzz that's followed her since the release of her single "We Can't Stop" back in June and continued after she famously took the stage at the 2013 VMAs in August.
"People have been doing this for the end of the time, so why are they riding Miley so hard [when] ... a lot of them have been doing the same thing?" T-Boz wondered. "She's coming out with good music, she's doing her thing; it's selling. And evidently the twerking is not stopping the record sales."
Her TLC partner, Rozonda "Chilli" Thomas did have some words of wisdom for Miley though as she embarks of the next chapter in her career.
"I'll say this, I just hope that Miley and anybody just have a really great support system 'cause that's what we had and still have to this day," Chilli said. "And I think that's very, very important, especially in a business like this [where] as long as you're on top people are just, they just say 'yes' to everything. They don't say 'no' — half of them are on the payroll. No 'yes-men' at all. I think she'll get through this. It seems like all the Disney kids do this."
