Netflix Orders Four New Marvel Superhero Shows

Series will hit streaming service in 2015

Marvel and Netflix are bringing many more superheroes to the small screen. The comics giant and the streaming service are teaming up for at least four original series and a miniseries.

The shows will be available exclusively on Netflix, according to the Hollywood Reporter. Marvel already has their star heroes decided: Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage, in that order. Set to debut in 2015, each series will include 13 episodes – and after their respective runs will come The Defenders, a mini-series about an Avengers-esque cadre of heroes.

"This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel's brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling," Marvel Entertainment President Alan Fine said in a statement. "Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel's specialty."

The announcement comes on the heels of the distribution deal that Disney (which owns Marvel) struck with Netflix last year. It also fits into the massive expansion of the current Marvel-verse across comics, films and now TV, with the premiere of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC earlier this fall.

Marvel's latest film installment, Thor: The Dark World hits theaters this weekend, while Captain America: The Winter Soldier is slated to open on April 4, 2014. The sequel to 2011's blockbuster The Avengers will follow on May 1, 2015.
