Olivia and Fitz Reunite on 'Scandal'
Watch an exclusive clip from this week's episode
Last week on Scandal, ABC's weekly orgy of sex, murder and political corruption, former White House communications director Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) was hired – and later fired – by Congresswoman Josephine Marcus (Lisa Kudrow), who is seeking the Democratic nomination for the Presidency. Later, Pope is summoned to White House, where First Lady Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) proposes that she run her old boss' re-election campaign. "He doesn't have the will to run, let alone win, without you," she says. "You're everything to him. He needs you." Now, the drama continues in this exclusive clip from this week's episode. In the scene above, Mellie storms enthusiastically into the Oval Office to tell President Fitzgerald Grant (Tony Goldwyn) and Chief of Staff Cyrus Beene (Jeff Perry) that Olivia is coming over – which must mean she’s made up her mind about the re-election effort. Or does it?
See Why Aziz Ansari Picked Scandal as His Favorite TV Show
Scandal fans are absolutely ravenous about their favorite show, as evidenced by the program's success on Twitter. The premiere episode, which aired on Thursday, October 3rd, drew 10.5 million viewers who tweeted nearly 713,000 times, reaching an additional audience of 3.7 million according to Nielsen. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Tony Goldwyn said all that action keeps the Grant administration on their toes. "You can interact with your fans as it's happening," he says, "and that's exciting. It makes it more of an event that people want to be a part of." As for whether or not his marriage will last another season, his television wife says it best: "[Mellie] loves Fitz, but it's her Achilles heel and her downfall. She would be so much better if she could let it go. Only deep passion could keep you in something so miserable."
