Robert Pattinson Comes To 'Life'

Robert Pattinson's had plenty of experience in front of the photographers lenses — both as a model and tabloid staple — but the 27-year-old will step behind the camera for his latest role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "Twilight" star will play magazine photographer Dennis Stock in the upcoming film "Life."

Based on a true story, "Life" centers around the friendship between Stock and actor James Dean, who will be portrayed by "Chronicle" actor Dane DeHaan. The two met when Stock was assigned to snap the up-and-coming actor — producing a series of iconic photographs shortly before Dean broke out with roles in "East of Eden" and "Rebel Without a Cause."

The film is expected to begin production in early 2014, with Anton Corbijn ("The American") directing and Iain Canning and Emile Sherman ("The King's Speech") producing.

"Life" is the latest project added to Pattinson's busy post-"Twilight Saga" slate. He wrapped production on the drama "The Rover" early this year, and just finished shooting "Maps to the Stars," which reunited him with "Cosmopolis" director David Cronenberg. He's also slated for "Mission: Blacklist" and "Queen of the Desert." As to whether the latter project — a Werner Herzog film focusing on the friendship between Gertrude Bell and T.E. Lawrence — will actually come together, that's yet to be seen, according to Pattinson's would-be co-star Naomi Watts.

"We'll wait and see," Watts told MTV News earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival. "He's a director I'm completely in awe of. He's a wonderful filmmaker and documentarian. It's a fantastic character, great story. I'm not sure when it's going to take place yet; there's been so much travel, as well, and I've got little kids, so we'll see if it happens later this year or next year."

Pattinson's "Life" co-star DeHaan, also 27, is becoming an increasingly hot property in Hollywood too, with roles in "Kill Your Darlings" and "The Amazing Spider-Man 2."
