New 'Downton Abbey' Teaser Hints at Looming Drama
Lady Mary Crawley deals with the aftermath of tragedy
Judging from the PBS trailer for Season Four of Downton Abbey, there will be much drama afoot in the months ahead. Although iTV, the British channel that broadcasts Abbey in England, released a longer trailer for the season in September, PBS has managed somehow to make the 30-second snippet here look even more sensational while using some of the same scenes. Both trailers begin with the Dowager Countess telling Lady Mary Crawley, "You have a straightforward choice before you: You must choose either death or life."

(Spoiler alert!) As the series begins, Lady Mary is mourning the loss of her husband Matthew, who died in a car crash. At the time of the accident, the couple's son, George, had just been born. Much of the new season deals with Mary attempting to rediscover happiness. Meanwhile the rest of the preview depicts various character peering around corners, spying on the happenings and scandals within the house.
Although he's not pictured in either preview, this season will also see the arrival of Paul Giamatti, who will portray the playboy brother of Lady Mary's mother Cora. This season is also rumored to feature more of Cora's mother, played by Shirley MacLaine.
Season Four begins on Sunday, January 5th.
