"Escape Plan" brings together two action legends for more than just a cameo together. Unlike "The Expendables," the new movie in theaters Friday casts Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone as the two leads, opposite a cast that includes Amy Ryan, Vincent D'Onofrio and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson.
When MTV News hit the red carpet at the premiere for "Escape Plan," Fifty confirmed that the two icons are really as tough as they appear to be.
"I have these moments at times. I don't like to talk about them, but they're these groupie moments where you're such a fan," he said. "You're like, 'What? Are you crazy?' I've always followed the action films. I really enjoy watching them, so it's exciting to be working with [Stallone and Schwarzenegger]."
And even though 50 Cent is few years younger than Stallone and Schwarzenegger, he couldn't help but admit that the duo stays in peak state. "I kind of watch them and go, 'Hold up now. I'm supposed to be shining already, and they're starting to get a little age on them.' Things aren't feeling like they used to, but they still kept themselves in shape and really disciplined," he said. "You'll see, when it comes time to eat popcorn tonight, they won't be participating."
According to Schwarzenegger, their collaboration and occasional rivalry helped keep him in shape. "I'm a big fan and a big admirer of Stallone, even when we're very competitive," Schwarzenegger said. "I like to outdo him all of the time. He likes to outdo me. I like to outdo everybody. That's just my nature."
But in the end, the two actors have a lot in common, like their love of working out and occasionally needing shots of pain killers.
"It was fun working with him because he's the fitness buff. He loved to work out. We worked out together. We talked about working out. We talked about acting. We talked about the movie. It was kind of like being buddies throughout the whole time," he said. "And also, many times we got injured together because he was trying to outdo me in the running and the climbing and all those things. So he pulled muscles, and he had to get his pain killing shots and cortisone shots. I had to get mine, but it was really very entertaining. I think we pushed each other. It really was helpful."
