'Catching Fire' Soundtrack Got 'Power' From Mikky Ekko

Mikky Ekko may have played the Grammys — performing
with Rihanna on "Stay," which he also wrote — but when it comes to the screen, the singer-songwriter feels particularly attached to a whole other production: "Hunger Games: Catching Fire."

Not only does Ekko (a.k.a. John Stephen Sudduth) have a song, "Place For Us," on the soundtrack, he also lent his writing skills to Christina Aguilera's anthemic "We Remain." "I had a song that was about halfway done and got a call saying, 'We really feel like this could fit — you want to take a shot at finishing it?'" Ekko told MTV News of "Place For Us." "I was like, 'Oh, I'm so busy right now, but, yes, I'll do it.' "

Although Ekko's single "We Must Be Killers" was featured on MTV's "Teen Wolf," the singer said that writing a song for a movie was new for him. "It was crazy," he said. "I think I don't really write for movies or for people, but it was an opportunity to try to finish something with strength and power and try to approach it like that. And just knowing that if we could get a great song, then it may be able to find a home that it wouldn't have found before."

Ekko may be busy working on his debut record with the likes of Pharrell Williams and Clams Casino, but he's still eager to see how his cinematic contribution plays out.

"I feel pretty invested in the movie," he said, "so I'm really looking forward to seeing that when it comes out."
